Your depth looks scary as it is unknown, unseen, but drives motivation to conquer my fears. Just like the depth of my own body and mind, I am continuously self-discovering. Our true form and our beauty are shown through our presence and our energy that is created from within.
As I stare at your beauty I wonder what lies beneath. Standing on the edge, staring into your depth, my hearts begins to beat with anticipation to dive in; dive in to discover what lies beneath. My hands get the first touch, followed by my face and my lips get a taste of your beauty. My trust lies deep as I float upon your surface, allowing your strength to keep me up, the only place I truly feel like I let can let myself go. My mind gets washed with your water and my thoughts run clearer. We are connected.
Today we celebrate you. To you which ties all our lands, who holds the power of our connections. You are connected to us, to everything. We need you to survive; 70% of the oxygen in our atmosphere, without which our lungs cannot function, is produced by your algae that covers the surface of your ‘skin’. Your outer beauty sparkles with the sun and the moon. Your tides, controlled by the moon like the energy of the universe, the sun warms you and feeds life beneath your surface. You have moods too, through your rough seas and your calm ones. You create waves, never one the same, each its own individual, unpredictable and in all shapes and sizes. Through your rough moods you gift us with the chance to feel strong. You put into perspective for me how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong, but to FEEL strong. We may know you by your outer self, the surface of what we can see, yet to truly understand you we must dive beneath your shallow waters.
If you haven't yet realized, our bodies are just like the ocean. Our human bodies, made up mostly of water like our earth, with organs, like the land that holds function and order. Beauty shines from the surface for others to see but underneath lies the heart of the ocean, the heart of our bodies. Below the surface we carry a depth of understanding, the continuous discovery of ourselves, who we are and the mystery of it to others.
“We do not ‘come into’ this world, we come out of it, as leaves from a tree, as waves from an ocean, the universe’s peoples.”
Oil spills, pipelines, overfishing, dying coral reefs and many other issues we have dealt with in the past and currently face today should be lessons for our future. Though the ocean is usually cooperative and provides us with so much life, it can fight back. We have seen its’ power that we cannot control. The ocean does not need us, we need it. I hope to share my words for you to find a connection. When we feel connected we find empathy, love, passion and our heart grows a little bigger - find room to care for our ocean...OUR ocean. Its not mine or yours, its ours, something we ALL share together. Learn to change your perspective. We don't necessarily need to change what we are looking at but change where we stand to get create a better view. Help others understand our connections and as we give the power of protection, in return the ocean gives us the power of life.
“The engine of life is linkage. Everything is linked. Nothing is self-sufficient. Water and air are inseparable, united in life and for our life on Earth. Sharing is everything.”
